Carl Smith has had a long career as an in-house trainer, using a number of People 1st Training Company programmes to train hundreds of people in a variety of courses including Train the Trainer, the WorldHost Principles of Customer Service programme and the Group Training Certificate.
In addition to working in-house at hospitality provider Prestige Ticketing, Carl is able to run his own freelance training business, CFS Talent, where he helps a number of organisations to fulfill their training needs.
Carl began his career in operations, progressing to become responsible for internal training programmes in a number of hospitality venues including Le Meridian Hotel Group, and has worked in this capacity for over 15 years. As an in-house trainer, Carl has undertaken a number of People 1st training programmes that have been designed to develop and assess a delegate’s training skills so they can become a licensed trainer.
He says, “Following my Technical Training Development, a week long course where skills are developed and then assessed, I became accredited to carry out People 1st training which taught me how best to develop teams and future trainers successfully. The training programmes have helped me increase my clients as they are both cost effective and help businesses to make the most of their staff’s personal development.
“In my experience the Group Training Certificate is without doubt one of the best courses to coach people in as it really pushes trainees to the limit of their ability through interactive tasks and therefore gives fantastic results. I have used this programme both as an internal trainer, and also through my own company CFS Talent, where I have trained hospitality organisations such as the Sofitel St James London Hotel, a five-star hotel and luxury spa located in central London.”
Carl now plans to introduce the training in-house at Prestige Ticketing, the organisation chosen by The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to operate the London 2012 ticketing programme, providing world-class hospitality in the official Olympic and Paralympic Games venues.
The importance of training is paramount for those in the hotel, leisure, passenger transport and tourism sector, and Carl is a great advocate of bringing that training in-house. He says, “Training brings many benefits to an organisation, such as motivating and retaining staff. When brought in–house it makes an even greater impact on the bottom-line. Cost effective training, which caters to all levels and can be re-visited on a regular basis or as needed, is a great asset for any business.
“Working as an in-house trainer is very rewarding and has helped me to develop new skills and stay motivated to deliver training to the highest standards. I hope to continue my career progression at its current rate, further expanding my own training business to provide quality programmes that help in-house trainers raise the bar for workplace training standards in the UK.”
