Licensed to Profit

The People 1st Training Company and Exemplas are running a series of business workshops for owners and managers of pubs, clubs and bars who are new to the industry, as well as those thinking about managing a pub or investing in the sector, and are looking for insider tips and advice to help grow their business.

With nearly 100 pubs still closing on a monthly basis, the workshops provide an exceptional opportunity for new entrepreneurs to the industry to benefit from trade experts to help them overcome the challenges inherent in running a licensed outlet and to develop the skills to sustain a successful business.

Supported by both the British Beer and Pub Association, and the BII (British Institute of Innkeeping), the workshop will be held on 15-16 May 2012 in Moorgate, London. The workshops are sponsored by Royal Bank Scotland / NatWest and therefore the cost to attend is only £166 plus VAT, which includes first year membership to the BII.

Cathie Smith, director of BIIAB, commented: “BII is delighted to support this programme and welcomes all delegates to membership of the professional body where top quality advice and guidance is available 24/7.”

The workshops focus on a number of key topics including customer attraction and retention through world-class customer service, improving profitability and cash management, recruiting and motivating staff, maximising food profits, and health and food safety.

The guest presenter is Alastair Scott, previously managing director of all Bar One and operational improvement director across the Mitchells & Butler estate. He currently owns three pubs in his personal portfolio.
